Saheli Centers
Saheli means "lady friends"

The first three photos are from the Chapra Saheli Center that our club has sponsored. That Saheli Center is graduating 250 women students per year with skills in computer, sewing, cosmetology, and painting. These young women (ages 17-23) come from underprivileged families and now, with a vocational skill, they are earning a decent living rather then being destitute. In addition to vocational training, the Center provides information and counseling on sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, and women's reproductive health. The Saheli Center is now working on a Micro-credit program to its service and thus becoming a true Women's Empowerment center.

Our District 7690 clubs have sponsored many Saheli Centers in India. More information about this District project is available here. Here are some additional photos of Saheli Centers sponsored by District 7690 clubs.

Adopt a Highway

They said persons could never fly like a bird, remembering Icarus. Then Orville Wright showed that this was possible—
and Orville was a Rotarian.

They said a person could never scale Everest, then Edmund Hillary (and Tenzing) proved them wring—
and Edmund was a Rotarian.

They said the moon was a mystery. Then Frank Borman during the first manned flight carried a Rotary flag—
and Borman was a Rotarian.

Rotary takes ordinary men
and gives them extra-ordinary opportunities to do more
with their lives than they had
ever dreamed possible.”

— Clem Renouf,
Rotary International President 1978-79
